This reminds me of a fake TV ad from an episode of
Saturday Night Live, offering senior citizens an
insurance policy that provided protection against
"robot attack"! The announcer even said something
to the effect of, "and if someone tells you that
robots don't exist, they are probably a robot in
disguise." It's easier to sell fear than it is to
sell hope.
Sadly though, as the singularity meme continues to
spread, this kind of opposing viewpoint is
inevitable. It's especially scary that this stuff
is coming from (supposedly) educated people.
