Runaway replication is a problem that has no
necessary connection with intelligence. For
examples from the world of biology, see any
pathogenic virus, or invasive species like kudzu
or zebra mussels.

In the realm of manmade technology, see computer
viruses. We have not yet made physical replicators
on a technology base, but they are are buildable
in the macro scale now, and in the nano scale soon,
but do not require intelligence, just a high level
of automation.
