In many ways, I think human emotions like compassion and love are
epiphenomena resulting from intelligence on one hand, and social
instincts on the other.

Do you think it's possible to build an artificial intelligence that does
not have instincts? If so, is it possible to preserve emotion without
instincts? (n.b. I'm not asking whether you think it's important to do
so, just whether it's possible or not).

Cheers,
