Good (and fascinating) points re the Copernican assumption. However, the
section of my post that you quoted was something of a side thought on my
part. My main concern was the moral risk (even in the absence of
inter-universe communication) inherent in an experiment that might generate
a new bunch of hell-worlds. (If, as Ben suggests, the many-worlds
hypothesis is thrown out by a future unified theory of quantum gravity,
then the whole issue becomes moot.)
