We are discussing FAI for the same reasons Foresight published the
"Foresight Guidelines on Molecular Nanotechnology" (
http://www.foresight.org/guidelines/current.html ); the uncertainty of
the future in nanotech warranted the publication. I and evidently many
other people on this list, and elsewhere, regard the potential problems
and rewards in AI as worthy of a good deal of time and energy - safety
for humanity should be paramount to the discussion.
